Just yesterday we wrote that Ford and Lincoln abandoned the project for an electric crossover based on the Rivian skateboard deck due to the coronavirus, as similar news arrived today from another American automaker. Fortunately, General Motors did not give up on the idea of launching the GMC HUMMER EV electric crossover, but simply decided to postpone the previously announced premiere for longer.
In late January of this year (that is, before the active phase of the coronavirus pandemic), the Americans announced that the electric GMC Hummer EV will be powered by 1,000 hp. And it can accelerate to 100 km / h in less than 3 seconds. The presentation was scheduled for May 20, 2020 and its market launch in the fall of 2021.
At the same time, the transfer of the official announcement is still unclear exactly how it will affect the start of serial assembly of the model. We also note that the makers of the GMC Hummer EV have yet to announce the most important features for electric vehicles in the form of battery capacity and power reserve, nor did they reveal the cost of the future model.
In order to please fans a bit, General Motors released a brief teaser with an electric car, shot “from a bird’s-eye view.” In the video, the crossover moves silently along the forest road, while due to the superior perspective it is impossible to consider the details of the new design. Previously, several more equally informative videos were released.
The Electric Hummer is expected to be available in a pickup format (i.e. it will compete with the Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and Ford F-150) and will go on sale in 2021-2022. General Motors has already invested $ 3 billion in a new electric car production line in Detroit, where it will assemble GMC and Hummer electric trucks, as well as $ 2.3 billion in a joint production of electric car batteries in Ohio with LG Chem. By 2023, GM promised to introduce at least twenty new electric models.
The first Hummer H1 was a civilian version of the Humvee military SUV, launched in 1992. Later, Hummer H2 (from 2002 to 2010) and Hummer H3 (from 2005 to 2010) entered the market, production of the ICE line closed in 2010. .
