On Saturday, December 5, in Paris, a protest against the global security bill, which protects the police from protesters and journalists and prohibits the filming of police officers, turned into street pogroms.
This was reported by the RIA Novosti Telegram channel.
The situation during the protest action became tense: people throw stones at law enforcement officers and, in response, use tear gas. Protesters began unscrewing cameras and destroying office buildings, and men dressed in black set several cars on fire.
Let us remind you that similar protests have already taken place in France. In November, protesters in Paris burned cars and fired fireworks at police officers. The radical protests were sparked by the bill “On Global Security”, which amends Article 24 of the country’s constitution. According to its provisions, imprisonment and a fine of 45 thousand euros can be threatened for “images of a face or other identifying element of a” policeman “with the obvious purpose of harming his physical or mental integrity”, even if the person is caught in a television report.
In addition, “Strana” examined in detail why the streets of the capital of France fight with protesters. Criticism also arose over the bill’s provision, according to which journalists must register in advance to cover demonstrations on the ground.
