Paris will remain engaged under the co-chairmanship of the Minsk Group
However, the French authorities will continue to do whatever is necessary to stabilize the situation in the South Caucasus.
Paris does not recognize the self-proclaimed Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced on Thursday, November 26, by the press service of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Our duty as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group is to work towards the solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict through negotiations, in particular on the question of the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the message reads.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the French authorities will continue to do whatever is necessary to stabilize the situation in the southern Caucasus.
“Paris will maintain its commitment under the co-presidency of the Minsk Group to advance on all parameters that have not yet been agreed. <...> In particular, we are talking about the issue of foreign mercenaries and the protection of the historical and cultural heritage of the region, ”the ministry said.
Let us remind you that the French Senate previously voted in favor of the resolution on the recognition of the independence of Nagorno Karabakh. The document was supported by 305 of 306 senators.
In this regard, the Azerbaijani parliament protested to the French authorities and called for Paris to be excluded from the list of co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group.
