Anatoly Maksimovich Zlenko graduated from Shevchenko State University in Kiev. He began his career in diplomatic work in 1967. Since 1983 – Permanent Representative of the Ukrainian SSR to UNESCO, in 1989-1990 – First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
In 1990-1994, Anatoly Zlenko worked as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Since 1994 – Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN.
The second time Zlenko became Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2000, he held this position until 2003.
In 2004-2005, Zlenko served as Ukraine’s representative on the UN Commission on Human Rights. He served as an advisor to the president and prime minister on special international affairs.
