Former member of the Party of Regions, Deputy Prime Minister of Mykola Azarov’s government, Viktor Tikhonov, died in Simferopol, allegedly of pneumonia.
On August 29, at the age of 72, the former deputy prime minister of Ukraine, Viktor Tikhonov, died in Simferopol, the Strana newspaper reported.
According to his close friend, the politician died of pneumonia.
The post of Deputy Prime Minister Tikhonov held in 2010-2011 in the government of Mykola Azarov. In 2011-2012, he was Ukraine’s ambassador to Belarus, in 2012-2014 – a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the Party of Regions.
From 1998 to 2006, he headed the Lugansk Regional Council, he was one of the organizers of the separatist congress in Severodonetsk in November 2004.
During the 2013-2014 Maidan, he led the Lugansk community “Lugan”, which, as noted “Novaya Gazeta”, participated in the evacuation of titushki from Kiev.
The media wrote that Tikhonov and another former regional deputy Alexander Efremov were seen as sponsors of separatists in the Lugansk region.
