The opinions of the deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group, Vitold Fokin, expressed in an interview with the media differ from his official position at the TCG meetings. In the interview, Fokine apparently allowed himself to go beyond that position.
This statement was made by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba in an interview with Radio Liberty.
Kuleba noted that Fokin’s statements outside the TCG are not Ukraine’s official position in the Donbass negotiations.
“Everyone has the right to make a mistake. We will not swing an ax immediately. And I sincerely hope that Mr. Fokin will continue his work at the TCG, not making such mistakes again,” added the minister.
Recall that recently Fokin gave an interview to the publication “Strana”. According to the published text of the interview, Fokin spoke about the need for a general amnesty for the militants and granting a special status to Donbass to resolve the situation. These words of Fokine caused outrage among the public and Ukrainian politicians.
Subsequently, Serhiy Garmash, representative of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, explained that the publication did not publish part of Fokin’s words, where he specifies who exactly should be covered by the amnesty.
Also, RBC-Ukraine wrote what Fokin’s statements on Donbass mean.
