The head of the Ukrainian delegation to the talks in Minsk, the first president of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, commented on the words of his colleague in the TCG Vitold Fokin about the granting of a special status for the entire Donbass territory.
Kravchuk recounted this on the air of the Espreso television channel.
He called Fokine’s statement his personal opinion, adding that he did not consult it or discuss it with the delegation.
“Does Fokin have the right to speak about his own position? Yes, he does. But if his position does not correspond, for example, with the law passed by the Verkhovna Rada, then he cannot make this position public, because it is no longer just Fokin, but is vice president. ” delegation, member of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, “Kravchuk said.
According to the first president, Vladimir Zelensky will decide the future fate of Fokin in the negotiations.
“This issue will be discussed at a meeting of our delegation, I think people will express their opinion on it. Fokin will explain why he chose this tactic, position, and this is not our decision. This is the decision of the head of state. Fokin was appointed to this position by presidential decree. I have absolutely nothing to do with this appointment, “he said.
Kravchuk summarized that he cannot decide this issue on his own, as it is not his competence.
Special status for the entire Donbass: what exactly Fokin said
- In one of his recent interviews, Vitold Fokin said that he was in favor of granting a special status to the entire territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and not just to the occupied part. In his opinion, many crimes have been committed by both parties, which must be investigated and those responsible must be punished. He also expressed his willingness to go to the occupied part of Donbass to negotiate with the militants, if such an order is given by the president or parliament. According to him, this idea is supported by the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Leonid Kravchuk.
- The head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, pointed out that Fokin’s statements about “special status” for the entire Donbass and amnesty for militants do not reflect the official position of the Ukrainian delegation. According to Yermak, most of the positions expressed by Fokin, in fact, reflect the provisions of the first and second Minsk agreements.
- Interior Minister Arsen Avakov pointed out that Fokin’s statements about a “special status” for the entire Donbass and a general amnesty for the militants do not respond to Ukraine’s national interests and are provocative.
