Fires in the Zhytomyr region, which are affected even by residents of other regions, continue.
Rescuers and police pinpoint several causes of this year’s fires: the unintended and unintentional dry grass fire, as well as climate change: the warm, light snow winter only contributed to the active spread of the fire.
DSNS President Mykola Chechotkin said the fires in the region had covered more than 4,000 hectares.

As of April 19, according to the SES, steps are being taken to extinguish 9 fires and burn without flame in the Zhytomyr region. The problem is that some of them cannot be reached by rescuers.
“The prolonged process of extinguishing forest fires in the territory of the Zhytomyr region is related to the inability of personnel to access separate fire centers due to overcrowded forests and the lack of roads to fight fires,” the department explained. .
Not only forests but towns are on fire. For example, in Magdin village only a few buildings in the open countryside survived, many houses were completely burned.
The situation is difficult and in the town of Lyudvinivka, according to eyewitnesses, the SESA did not work there, the locals broke trenches around the buildings with the help of a tractor to protect them from fire. So they managed to save the cemetery.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said law enforcement officers are considering two main versions of the fire occurrence in Zhitomir: dry land and arson.
“The primary fires were the result of a severe drought that cut the electrode cables. However, there are certain facts that suggest that there was an arson,” says Avakov.
A team from MIA is currently working in the area to investigate the circumstances of the fires.
