Zelensky called meetings on the fire

In half a day, the area of the fire has increased fivefold. The head of state ordered financing for the victims.

President Vladimir Zelensky, who is in the Kharkiv region, has called an urgent meeting due to the forest fires in the Kharkiv and Lugansk regions. According to the latest data, the fire area is 400 hectares, of which 100 hectares are horse fires. This was announced on Wednesday, September 2, by the presidential press service.

The head of state said he intends to receive operational information on the fires and keep the situation under control.

“I demand quick reactions to these kinds of events. If necessary, we will organize the evacuation of all people, think about their safety first. Everything possible must be done for rapid containment and extinction. And we must also think about the allocation of funds to cover the losses. Not later, and now, “Zelensky said.

Eight houses out of 150 were found to be burned in one of the villages. Notification to the local population was organized with a view to a possible evacuation, but people continue to refuse.

The preliminary cause of the fire is the ignition of a landfill, from which, due to gusts of wind, the fire spread to the forest. However, law enforcement agencies do not rule out the arson version. Fire suppression continues, but the situation is complicated by strong gusts of wind.

Earlier it was reported that a coniferous forest is burning in the Kharkiv region. When rescuers arrived at noon, the fire covered an area of about 80 hectares.

Let us remind you that a forest was burning near Severodonetsk earlier. 44 firefighters and 10 teams participated in the extinction, the fire spread over 5 hectares.
