Viking Grace ferry runs aground

The Viking Grace ferry was carrying 331 passengers and 98 crew members. None of them were injured.

The passenger ferry Viking Grace, en route from Stockholm to Turku, ran aground near the port of Mariehamn on the Åland Islands during a strong wind. This is reported by the local newspaper Iltalehti on Sunday, November 22.

There were 331 passengers and 98 crew on board. According to the head of the Viking Line press service, the lives of the passengers were not in immediate danger.

Inspection of the boat showed that there were no holes. The owner of the boat waited for the wind to die down, after which the ferry began to be towed aground.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, the ocean liner was successfully towed to Mariehamn Bay.

According to the Coast Guard, the passengers were still on board for some time and their evacuation began this morning.

As a reminder, in September, another Viking Line passenger ferry, Viking Amorella, ran aground near the Aland Islands. Then, on board the ship there were 207 passengers and 74 crew members. None of them were injured.
