On Tuesday, September 1, Facebook announced the blocking of a network of accounts associated with Russia’s Internet Research Agency, also called a “troll factory.” The network used social media accounts to incite political hatred in the United States after the 2016 presidential election.

Write about this Associated Press agency.

The people behind the accounts hired “unsuspecting” freelance journalists to publish messages in English and Arabic, mainly aimed at left-wing audiences.

The network’s activities were concentrated in the United States, Great Britain, Algeria and Egypt, as well as in other English-speaking countries and the countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

The company said it launched an online investigation based on information from the FBI about the “troll factory” outside of Facebook. The network was in an early stage of development, Facebook noted.

“To avoid detection, the people behind the network recruited Americans to carry out their orders, both as journalists and as individuals authorized to buy political advertisements in the United States,” the report said.
