This week in Ukraine, the issue of external control of the United States and the West in general was actively discussed.
It was updated by the memoirs of the Canadian Ambassador in Kiev Roman Vashchuk, who served from 2014 to 2019.
Also in Kiev, a demonstration was held near the US embassy against external control, which later angered the embassy itself, saying that talking about external control is “Russian disinformation.”
“Strana” understood how this topic was updated and what the people of Kiev think about it.
The revelations of the ambassador and Soros with a rope
The confessions of former Canadian Ambassador Roman Vashchuk caused a great resonance. This diplomat recently gave a lecture to the listeners of the Shevchenko Scientific Society of Canada. Where he told very frankly how the West led Ukrainian politics after the Euromaidan.
In particular, how it imposed certain financial and personnel decisions on the authorities. Including those that Western politicians and experts would not implement in their countries on the territory of their countries.
He also told how the “sorosyts” sent by the embassies aroused the antipathy of the population of the country, which caused the defeat of the Ukrainian authorities in 2019, with the election of Zelensky.
Another thing is that the new president finally deceived the expectations of the voters and followed the same path.
For example, the new government, according to Vashchuk, obeyed the Americans and suspended all agreements in the Minsk Group, pending the election of Biden as president. Although this completely contradicted what Zelensky had promised: to end the war as soon as possible and to agree “even with the bald devil.”
The former ambassador’s statements had the effect of the explosion of an informational bomb. Although before them there was much evidence of a great interference of the United States and Europe in the internal affairs of Ukraine. For example, “Derkach tapes” in which President Poroshenko receives direct instructions and even hacks from US Vice President Biden.
Another of the public testimonies of the “leadership role” of the United States was the official statement from the US embassy that Ukraine will not buy the Russian vaccine against the coronavirus.
Last Tuesday, the Platform of the Opposition for Life party held a rally against external control at the US embassy in Kiev.
Activists staged a performance when a man in a George Soros mask carries a girl in Ukrainian national clothes on a leash. All this was accompanied by speeches on the external management of Ukraine. In the end, People’s Deputy Ilya Kiva “rescues” the Ukrainian woman and expels “Soros”.
A few days later, the embassy reacted. They claimed that the narrative on external control is “Russian disinformation” spread by forces loyal to Russia.
Who in Ukraine is sponsoring the constant stream of lawsuits and the spread of disinformation with the aim of discrediting the democratically elected government of Ukraine and its reforms that have not come so easily? enrich themselves at the expense of the Ukrainian people, “the statement read.
In addition, the diplomats said they do not run Ukraine, but “help” at the request of the country’s government. In general, this is a fairly common rhetoric for the US Embassy, which more than once has tried to refute the thesis on external management.
There is only one problem: nobody refutes these theses in essence. For example, “Derkach films”. The embassy does not declare this to be false, fiction, etc. And instead, US sanctions are being introduced against the people’s deputy. That only confirms the authenticity of the scandalous records and the painfulness of the events exposed there for various American circles.
“We are not governed by independent figures”
What politicians say about external management is more or less clear. But what people know and think about him is also interesting.
The special correspondent for “Strana” Antonina Beloglazova conducted a survey of Kiev residents about this.
When asked if Ukraine is under the control of the United States, the man we met said yes. And until Ukraine begins to present itself as something, it will continue.
But a woman we met on the same street said the United States is “our partner and a very powerful helper, especially during the war.” In his opinion, the action under the embassy was organized by people who “are not fighting for a free Ukraine.”
Another passerby is sure that there is external control over Ukraine, but it is not clear who exercises it.
“It seems to me that the people who now run our country are under someone else’s influence. They are not independent figures. I’m not sure if this is the United States, but ours are definitely not independent.” She suggested that these are “globalized communities.”
The other woman is more categorical.
“The end of Ukraine. It has lost its subjectivity. Khan,” he snapped, saying that Kiev has no chance of getting out of the foreign dictatorship. “A miracle will help.”
A passerby does not agree with her, who believes that “we have our own management.”
“Of course, we are dependent somewhere. They give us some subsidies. But we are an independent state.” Regarding the influence of the United States, he said: “It is better to have this influence than Russia.”
A man and a woman were trapped in the frame, arguing with each other. He said that Ukraine is not controlled by anyone from outside, she did not agree with him.
“We must command the parade themselves, and not the United States to command,” the woman said. “The United States does not command,” the man argues. “We need to change the government to make it hasty,” continued our interlocutor.
“Soros rules the ball, the whole world. He scales everywhere, both in Georgia and in Karabakh,” he said. His partner went on to argue: “We managed it ourselves, but nothing has worked for 30 years.”
“There is influence, but they don’t have time to handle us. They don’t have time for us. This is an exaggeration. I think there are some wishes, but no more,” we chatted with another woman.
Another passerby, on the contrary, is sure that there is external management, and this is a negative factor. To get rid of it, “we have to put things in order in our country and imprison those who should sit down.”
Then, in his opinion, the budget will be completed and there will be no need to ask the West for money and carry out its orders.
To get rid of external management, “a new team of people has to come, just a lot,” a girl we met in the park told us.
A passing retiree said that we were under the external control not of the United States, but of Russia. “The whole system is still pro-Soviet, nothing has changed.”
But the man who agreed to answer our question believes that Ukraine is controlled by the United States and that is good.
“It is (under external control – Ed.) and thank goodness. Because not Russia, which is ready to destroy us even tomorrow ”. At the same time, he admitted that Ukraine had lost its independence, because “everything was looted.”
The retiree with her grandson said that there is external control from the United States, and it is more than from Russia. He recalled that Ukrainians have more in common with the Russian Federation, relatives, industrial ties. “You cannot isolate yourself from your neighbors.”
Only a “decisive decision” will help to get rid of external control, she is sure.
“Ukraine is under everyone’s control. In particular, the United States and Russia,” says another passerby.
“I don’t know if Ukraine can get out of external control or not. But it should!” Said another retiree.
