The consideration of the disciplinary responsibility of the forensic experts who carried out an examination of the criminal proceedings related to the death of journalist Pavel Sheremet was initiated by the lawyer of the children’s doctor Yulia Kuzmenko, reported the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine.

The Central Commission for the Qualification of Experts (CECC) under the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine concluded that experts from the Kiev Institute of Scientific Investigation of Forensic Examinations, who carried out an expert examination of criminal proceedings related to the death of journalist Pavel Sheremet, did not go beyond their competence and provided an objective written conclusion on the case of Sheremet’s death. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Interior of Ukraine.

A lawyer initiated the examination of the disciplinary responsibility of forensic experts child doctor Yulia Kuzmenko, suspected of killing a journalist.

“The CEKK did not evaluate the substance of the expert opinions, but the observance of the procedures. As a result of the evaluation of the observance of the procedures, some comments emerged in the commission. The issue of appealing the CEKK’s decision will be resolved later of its reception “, indicated the Ministry of the Interior.

Sheremet died on July 20, 2016 in Kiev as a result of the explosion of a car belonging to the co-founder of the newspaper “Ukrainian Truth”, the de facto wife of journalist Alena Pritula. The prosecution called the incident a premeditated murder committed in a manner dangerous to the lives of many people. According to investigators, the journalist was killed to destabilize the situation in Ukraine.

On December 12, 2019, Interior Minister Arsen Avakov announced the arrest of those suspected of being involved in Sheremet’s murder. Later that day, the National Police gave the names of those likely involved: it is a military nurse Yana Dugar (the court sent her under house arrest and she was released on bail on May 25, 2020), a military and musician Andrey Antonenko (arrested) and Kuzmenko (under house arrest).

Investigators believe Kuzmenko and Antonenko planted the explosives under Sheremet’s car. The latter was called the organizer of a criminal group. Dugar was allegedly involved in “intelligence”: she was looking for closed-circuit television cameras on the conspirators’ route. On May 21, it was learned that the text of the suspicion had been modified. The new edition says that Kuzmenko only placed the explosives together with Antonenko, but did not activate them.

On May 22, the police notified the defense of the suspects about the end of the pre-trial investigation.

On August 18, Kuzmenko and Antonenko delivered the indictment.

The Shevchenko District Court decided that the suspects will be tried by a jury. All three people involved in the case deny their guilt.
