The Kiev Svyatoshinsky District Court refused to place former Berkut special forces soldiers Alexander Marinchenko and Sergei Tamturu under house arrest. They are accused of participating in the murder of 48 Euromaidan activists.
Reported by RBK-Ukraine correspondent.
On Tuesday, October 20, the jury continued to consider the case of the Hundred Celestials shooting on Institutskaya Street in Kiev. Five former Berkut combatants are charged with this crime: Sergei Tamtura, Alexander Marinchenko, Pavel Abroskin, Sergei Zinchenko and Oleg Yanishevsky.
All of them were released at the end of December 2019 to participate in the exchange of prisoners as part of the agreements between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia. “Berkutovtsy” Tamtura and Marinchenko returned to the controlled territory of Ukraine on February 8, 2020, the rest remained in ORDLO.
For the time being, the prosecution has asked the court to place the two returned defendants under house arrest as, according to law enforcement officers, they could interfere with the trial. However, on Tuesday the jury denied this motion, noting that Tamtura and Marinchenko were not hiding from the court.
The Prosecutor’s Office asks the “Berkutovites” who remain on the international wanted list.
We will recall that the previous RRB investigators sent indictments against two former employees of the special regiment “Berkut” in Kiev in the Maidan cases.
It was also reported that Kiev unblocked consideration of the Maidan executions case.
