Andriy Vorobei, former Shakhtar forward interview with Tribuna.com He told why he became a deputy of the Kurakhovsk territorial communities of the Servant of the People party.
– What connects you with Kurakhovo?
– I bought a dacha there a long time ago, in the early 2000s. It is not far from Donetsk, literally a 40 minute drive. Passing the base of the Shakhtar, in a straight line.
– He became a deputy of the Kurakhovsk territorial communities. Why did you decide to get into politics?
– I do not consider myself a politician, it is said too loud. Kurakhovo is my homeland, Donetsk. I would like to develop sports activities there. I often go there, I see that there is nothing. Our young people, children, should not climb the streets, but play sports and develop. I have played sports all my life, it is interesting for me. I feel the strength to change something.
– Did someone offer you to be a deputy?
– I’ve been carrying this idea for a long time. Everywhere is good, but at home it is better. I will not say that I feel uncomfortable in Kiev, but deep down I am a Donbass citizen. I would like to conquer heights at home.
– Still, who invited you to the party of the Servant of the People?
– I received an offer to try myself in the role of deputy, but I will not say from whom. I agreed. Why not?
– You went to the polls under the first number of “Servant of the People”. Do you think your visibility played a key role?
– I think so. People focused on me. I think there would be even more people willing to vote if the displaced people living there managed to re-register in time. I raised this issue too late. Ordinary people did not know who had the opportunity to cast their vote. I think if most migrants had time to re-register, the turnout would have been much higher and we would have received more votes. Also, don’t forget about the pandemic and war. Many people are already tired and simply did not vote. I lost faith that you can change something.
– Do you think something will change in the Donbas?
– Yes absolutely. Everything will be fine. Everyone must do their job. Benefit the country where you can, what you know. If you are a builder and you go to work for the Ministry of Culture, you will not be successful. Or you’ve worked your whole life in a rubber chemical factory and you’re going to coach a soccer team. It should not be like that. Each person should be involved in the area in which he specializes.
– Did you run your election campaign? Have you traveled the region?
– Yes, we had our own headquarters. I do not want to offend anyone, but we have reacted negligently to the election campaign. The young specialists simply did not know what to do. Other political forces hired good political scientists, held many meetings, and won their votes.
– Do not you think it could be a sabotage in the region in favor of competition?
– I do not know what and how, so I do not go into those questions. Somehow we got to a meeting with the voters, but nobody came there. You should ask those who organize such events. They say that “Servant of the people” does not like here. What have you done to attract people? Nothing. You need to look for reasons in yourself.
– You once said that you are interested in politics, but you don’t understand. Have you already changed this thesis?
– Study, I try to penetrate and understand. But again, a person has to deal with those issues in which they understand. If I understand sports problems, I will work in this direction: develop the region in this area. This applies not only to football, but also to other sports: gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, athletics. Attraction of investments, creation of infrastructure. How it will turn out, we will see. The easiest way is to come and say, “Pick me, I’ll do it all.” No.
– Do you understand that now a trip to Donetsk is dangerous for you?
– Let’s not mention this. I understand that life is one and that you need to do business. If I can bring the Donetsk region to a high level in sporting terms, I will be very happy, Sparrow said.
