The leader of the protests in Belarus and former rival of the dictator Alexander Lukashenko in the elections Svetlana Tikhanovskaya supported the idea of a popular takeover proposed by the opposition.
He thanked the Belarusians for their trust and stressed that this is how they once again expressed their will.
«The inauguration is a celebration. And the holidays must not end with arrests, dispersal and violence. We are making all possible efforts so that the actual inauguration of the president elected by the people in the future still takes place, and everyone is invited to it, ”said Tikhanovskaya.
He reminded protesters that every vote counts and assured that «I am willing to do everything possible to make every voice heard. “
«I support all those who will take to the streets of their cities this Sunday. After all, you are going to marry yourself, your people, and the new Belarus. Together we can achieve our goal: new fair elections. And, as a result, an official and legal investiture. “
Earlier, the Belarusian opposition Telegram channel NEXTA announced on Sunday September 27 “the popular inauguration of the current president.” The channel’s authors recalled that honest protocols from different cities and towns confirmed the victory of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya in the presidential elections, but “the bandits pushed the winner out of the country with a threat”:
«The entire civilized world recognizes Svetlana and the Coordination Council as the only legitimate representatives of the Belarusians. It’s time for Belarusians to show the world what the inauguration of a real village is like! ”.
Minsk residents were urged to go to the city center at 2:00 p.m. with posters honoring Tikhanovskaya and her portraits.
On September 23, Alexander Lukashenko was sworn in as President of Belarus for a new term. At the same time, the opening ceremony was not announced.
The Belarusian opposition compared the secret “the inauguration of “Lukashenko with a gathering of criminals to «coronation ”of a thief and declared indefinite action of disobedience.
Several countries have recognized Lukashenko as illegitimate, including Ukraine.
For the seventh week in Belarus, massive protests against Alexander Lukashenko’s regime, which has ruled the country since 1994, have harshly suppressed the opposition and the independent media. The protests erupted after a massive manipulation in the presidential election on August 9. Belarusians are demanding new elections.
Alexander Lukashenko rejected any concessions and attempts at dialogue with protesters and the opposition, repeatedly stating that Belarus’ western neighbors are behind the wave of protests.
