Members of the European Union have extended economic sanctions against Russia for six months. The EU Council decided to extend the restrictive measures until July 31, 2021.

This was reported by the press service of the Council of the European Union.

“Today, the Council has decided to extend the restrictive measures currently in force with respect to certain sectors of the Russian economy,” the Council said in a statement.

Note that the Summit of Heads of State of the European Union on December 10 made the political decision to once again extend the economic sanctions against Russia. The last time the economic sanctions were extended in June this year until January 31, 2021, at a meeting of the committee of permanent representatives of the EU.

The EU economic sanctions against Russia in connection with the occupation of Crimea were first introduced on July 31, 2014. Since then, they have been extended many times.

We will recall that the last time the sanctions were extended after assessing the status of Russia’s implementation of the Minsk agreements on the settlement in Donbas. The European Union considered that the implementation of the agreements had not been achieved.

Earlier it was learned that Ukraine is initiating new sanctions against Russia due to the privatization of the Crimea Massandra winery. This week the occupation authorities sold it to the Rossiya bank structures.
