The European Union has officially notified the United Kingdom of its violation of the Brexit agreement. The EU gave the country one month to rectify the violations.
This was stated in the message on the European Commission website.
“We suggest to our British friends that they remove the problematic parts of their bill on the domestic market by the end of September. This bill, by its very nature, is a violation of the good faith obligation set out in the Withdrawal Agreement. (Article 5) “, said the EC.
The commission stressed that if the law is passed in its current form, it will completely contradict the Protocol on Ireland / Northern Ireland.
“The deadline expired yesterday. Problematic provisions were not removed. Therefore, this morning the commission decided to send a letter with an official notification to the UK government,” the message reads.
Notification is the first step in the repair procedure. The British government has a month to respond.
Recall that at the beginning of September, the European Commission issued a harsh statement after an emergency meeting of the EU-UK Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Brexit Agreement.
The EC emphasized that Britain’s attempts to reinterpret the agreement undermine trust between the parties.
As RBC-Ukraine wrote, the EU previously called an extraordinary joint committee meeting with Great Britain due to the fact that the British government plans to pass a bill that contradicts the Brexit deal.
