Ambassadors temporarily retired

The organization stressed that the support of the Belarusian people and their aspirations for democracy remains a priority.

The European Union, including Lithuania and Poland, decided to convene the Belarusian ambassadors for consultations. This was announced on Monday, October 5, by the Polish Foreign Minister, Zbigniew Rau, in Twitter.

Therefore, Vilnius made a decision after discussing the issue with Warsaw.

“Our aim is to preserve diplomatic contacts as much as possible. We also notified the Belarusian side about this, thereby agreeing that the temporary revocation of the ambassador for consultations would serve to reduce tensions and help preserve diplomatic representation at the ambassadorial level. “said Baltic Republic Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius.

The Union warned Minsk that “any attempt to stigmatize any EU member state will meet with an unequivocal and supportive response.”

At the same time, Rau stressed that the support of the Belarusian people and their aspirations for democracy remains a priority.

“We need communication channels and the opportunity to act in support of a sovereign and democratic Republic of Belarus,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.

Let us remind you that on October 2, the Belarusian authorities called the ambassadors of Poland and Lithuania, and also demanded that the embassies of these countries reduce the diplomatic staff in Minsk. Then the officer Vilnius and Warsaw refused to call their ambassadors in response.
