The United States and the EU will continue to give money to the Ukrainian authorities, if they elect the “right” head of the SAP, taking into account merit and virtue, diplomatic missions said.
Western creditors expect a “transparent process” from the Ukrainian authorities in electing a new SAP director.
Additional financial support from the Ukrainian authorities will depend on the election of a new head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Corruption. This was announced on Thursday, September 17 by the European publication Pravda, citing statements from the EU and US embassies in Ukraine.
“The EU and the United States took note of the Verkhovna Rada’s decision to appoint commission members to select a specialized anti-corruption prosecutor. The commission must initiate a transparent process based on the virtue and merit of the candidates. Our strongest support it will depend on this, “the statement said.
As a reminder, the Verkhovna Rada approved the representatives on the competition commission for the election of the head of the SAP, despite warnings from Western creditors.
The commission that will hold a competition for leadership positions in the SAP should include 11 people, seven of them are appointed by the Rada, the remaining four by the council of prosecutors.
