What is the “weekend quarantine”?

On November 11, the Cabinet of Ministers tightened quarantine restrictions in Ukraine. The so-called weekend quarantine has been added to the rules.

From 00.00 hours on Saturday to 00.00 hours on Monday from November 14 to 30, the work of cafes, bars, restaurants will be prohibited, except work at home or to take away, as well as work in the shopping center, fitness clubs, swimming pools and gyms.

In commercial establishments, only stores are allowed to operate, of which 60% or more sell food, fuel, medicines, veterinary drugs, feed. At the same time, you can deliver products to your home.

The work of financial institutions, post offices, veterinary clinics, gas stations (without food areas) and service stations is also allowed.

The activities of cultural institutions, cultural events, except film and audio filming, are prohibited, provided that access to the set is restricted. All participants in the shoot must wear masks.

The “weekend quarantine” will not affect the work of public transport.

According to Ukrainska Pravda, the weekend quarantine can be extended until December 31.

Health Minister Maxim Stepanov has repeatedly said that the best option for Ukraine in the fight against the epidemic would be to introduce a total lockdown for several weeks, but, according to him, the Ukrainian economy will not tolerate it.

Where the quarantine will not be introduced

Immediately after the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers, several mayors of Ukraine’s regional centers declared that they did not agree with it. First of all, because of the negative impact on small and medium-sized companies.

Lviv

Lvov Mayor Andrey Sadovy called the “weekend quarantine” nonsense. He said city authorities would not make “unreasonable decisions.” The Lviv City Council announced its intention to appeal the government’s decision in court.

Cherkasy

Cherkassy Mayor Anatoly Bondarenko, now suffering from COVID-19, called the government’s decision a big mistake. Odessa

On November 12, the Odessa City Council announced that they would not introduce “weekend quarantine.” The city will continue to apply restrictions on the “orange” level of epidemic danger.

Ivano-Frankivsk

The Executive Committee of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council adopted a decision on November 13, which declared Saturdays and Sundays until November 30 as business days for catering establishments, gyms, cultural institutions and markets.
