Elections for the mayor of Kiev will take place on the last Sunday in October. The level of support from the candidates will determine whether they will pass in one or two rounds.
According to the law, in cities with a population of 75,000 inhabitants, the second round is organized in the absence of an absolute majority of votes (more than 50%) of one of the mayoral candidates.
Candidates can participate in elections both as autonomous candidates and as nominated by parties. At the same time, a candidate for the position of mayor can also be nominated as a deputy to the city council.
The process for submitting documents to the CEC ended on September 24. In fact, one month is allocated for the pre-election campaign. The decision to run for office can be reversed no later than October 5. October 24 will be a “day of silence” and voting will take place from 08:00 to 20:00 on October 25.
The ballot to vote for mayoral candidates in the 2020 local elections was approved in light pink with the format of a table with names, in front of which it must be marked.
How will the vote go amid the coronavirus pandemic?
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, enhanced security measures will be implemented at polling stations on Election Day. Then, at the entrance, voters will have to undergo a temperature test. People who will be isolated on Election Day will be able to vote at their place of stay. To do this, you must submit an application and a medical certificate to the district electoral commission before 8:00 p.m. on October 23.
Candidates for mayor
On September 28, the Election Commission of the city of Kiev announced the registration of 17 candidates for mayor of Kiev. The registration process will last until October 2.
