The Council of the European Union approved conclusions on the Eastern Partnership policy after 2020, confirming its strategic importance. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the EU Council website.
The conclusions highlight the “significant achievements of the Eastern Partnership”, and the Council of the EU confirms its “incentive and conditions based approach, as a means of encouraging Eastern Partnership countries to continue reforms and increase efforts in this address”.
“The Council confirms that the current political framework, including the 20 Results for 2020, is operational and offers tangible results and benefits for people. The Council also emphasizes the importance of the future of the Eastern Partnership as a more strategic, ambitious cooperation framework , flexible and comprehensive, allowing participants to jointly solve common and global problems in a wide range of areas, especially in the current unprecedented situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, “the report said.
On Facebook, Ukraine’s missions to the EU welcomed the adoption of conclusions of the EU Council.
“Ukraine looks forward to the ambitious sixth summit of vice-presidents, at which strategic goals for the future must be approved,” said Mykola Tochitsky, head of Ukraine’s EU Mission.
Recall that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, on May 7 in a telephone conversation with his Polish counterpart, Jacek Chaputovych, discussed preparations for the sixth summit of the Eastern Partnership.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine wrote that Kiev proposed concluding an agreement on a joint aviation space with the European Union during the Eastern Partnership Summit. The signing of the agreement was discussed during a telephone conversation between the leaders of the governments of Ukraine and Croatia.
