Dozens of passengers from Great Britain had to spend the night in German airports
Germany has suspended flights with the UK in connection with a new coronavirus mutation, people are trapped in airports.
In Germany, dozens of UK passengers spent the night at airports waiting for COVID test results. This was reported by the n-tv channel on Monday, December 21.
Air traffic between Germany and Great Britain was interrupted at midnight local time due to a new mutation of the coronavirus.
In Hanover, 63 passengers from the flight from London spent the night. Their test results are expected today only, and before that they were banned from leaving. Camping beds were set up for them.
“Our aim is to prevent the new virus from entering Lower Saxony undetected,” said Andreas Kranz, head of the Hannover Department of Public Health.
According to him, if any of the newcomers are found to have an infection, they will be quarantined in a special hotel. In the event of a negative test result, a person arriving from the UK can go to their destination but must be in self-isolation. After five days, if the authorities present another negative test result, you can complete the quarantine, the official explained.
At the same time, passengers arriving from London to Stuttgart were sent in small groups to the airport’s test center. Those who did not have the coronavirus were allowed to move on, however they must be in self-isolation. The number of passengers in question is not specified.
Finally, The Economist Berlin correspondent, Tom Nuttall, tweeted that he arrived from London to Berlin by plane and that he and all the passengers on his flight were also ordered to pass coronavirus tests and wait at the airport for the results.
Recall that earlier, due to the new strain of coronavirus, Johnson called an emergency meeting. The British Prime Minister will chair the meeting on the closure of flights from other countries with the Kingdom.
In addition, the EU will hold an urgent meeting on this matter. The countries of the European Union are alarmed by the news of the mutated coronavirus.
