Interior Minister Arsen Avakov emphasizes that the statements of the first vice-president of the Ukrainian delegation to the Provisional Contact Group Vitold Fokin on a “special status” for the entire Donbass and a general amnesty for the militants do not correspond to the national interests of Ukraine and are provocative.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of the Interior.

“None of our soldiers should die due to ridiculous political speculation. Therefore, the statement of the representative of Ukraine in the VKG Fokin on a general amnesty and a special status for the entire Donbass territory is provocative and does not correspond to national interests, ”said Avakov.

Fokine’s scandalous statement: what he proposed

  • The first deputy head of the Ukrainian delegation to the Minsk talks, former Prime Minister Vitold Fokin, said in an interview with the Strana newspaper that he was in favor of granting special status to the entire territory of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, and not just your busy part.
  • Fokin expressed his position on special status when answering the question about amnesty for militants. In his opinion, many crimes have been committed by both parties, which must be investigated and those responsible must be punished.
  • He also noted that he is ready to go to the occupied part of Donbass to negotiate with the militants, if the president or parliament give such an order. According to him, this idea is supported by the head of the Ukrainian delegation in the talks in Minsk on Donbass, Leonid Kravchuk.
