Former city mayor and former town deputy Mikhail Dobkin withdrew his candidacy for the Kharkov mayor’s election in favor of current mayor Gennady Kernes, who is running again.
The former mayor of Kharkov and the People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation, Mikhail Dobkin, withdrew his candidacy for the post of mayor of Kharkov. He announced it on October 4 on Telegram.
“Today he withdrew his candidacy in favor of [действующего мэра] Gennady Kernes. He is improving and participating in the mayoral elections. This completes my mission. I wish him and his bloc victory in the elections. Nobody canceled the task of loving Kharkiv and working for the people. After all, this is our city and we live here, “Dobkin wrote.
Information about Dobkin’s withdrawal from his candidacy was confirmed by the head of the territorial electoral commission of the city of Kharkov, Olga Mozgovaya, to the Kharkov edition of NewsRoom.
In 2006–2010, Dobkin was mayor of Kharkiv and then, in 2010–2014, he headed the Kharkiv Regional State Administration.
On September 23, 2020, the Kernes bloc – Kharkiv’s successful party nominated Kernes, who is being treated for COVID-19 at the German Charite clinic, for the position of mayor. Dobkin announced his decision to run in Kharkov on the same day, although in July he released an election video on Kiev.
Explaining his decision, Dobkin said this is “a security option for Kernes.”
Local elections in Ukraine scheduled for October 25… Elections will be held throughout Ukraine, except in Russian-occupied Crimea and certain territories in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Electoral campaign started on September 5.
