“I want to see an aggressive, compact team that understands the game and what the situation on the field requires. I can have a ball control philosophy, but if I play against a stronger opponent, it won’t work. So I have to act actively without ball in the first and second zone, or I want the team to play total football and understand the game, “said Igor Jovichevich after his appointment as head coach of Dnipro-1. He also said that this week he will work more on psychology than on tactics, “so that the players think only in the positive.”
However, it cannot be said that the Croatian coach has achieved at least something. Furthermore, moving away from Mikhailenko’s developments, Dnepr-1 was completely lost. Jovicevic, as promised, transferred the team to a four-defender scheme. They are Adamyuk, Svatok, Douglas and Dubinchak (from right to left). In midfield were Batagov and Kravchenko, Sergei advanced a bit higher, Di Franco slipped under a single striker Artem Dovbik, Tsurikov and Taylor, unsurprisingly, came out the flanks of midfield.
It’s hard to think positively when you concede a goal in the third minute. It is even more difficult when you don’t understand how you can achieve the result. The whole tactic of “Dnipro-1” was to give Dubinchak a pass, and he was about to complete the serve. This strategy created up to two half chances: a kick to the side of the goal from Dovbik and, in fact, a rebound from Di Franco.
Of course, you can always tell that the team is playing as the opponent allows. And “Alexandria” that night was good, in its best traditions, when they managed to win bronze. Kirill Kovalets returned to the application, but remained on the bench. Vladimir Sharan made up for the absence of a playmaker by making the game as simple as possible. “Alexandria” did not hesitate to charge the ball in the direction of two forwards – Sitalo and Bezborodko, who were supposed to impose a fight on the “Dnipro-1” centrals. Of course, an important role was assigned to the flanks, where Luchkevich was pumped to the right (Pashaev mainly secured) and Miroshnichenko and Tretyakov to the left. Grechishkin and Gordienko made life as difficult as possible for the Dnipro-1 central midfielders and were always ready to launch one of their teammates to a breakthrough. This time the center of defense was closed by Dubra and Baboglo, behind whom came Bilyk, and Pankiv inexperienced.
The debut of the match was ideal for Alexandria. The first attack led to a goal: Sitalo threw the defender behind him, Bezborodko ran in the opposite direction, received a pass from the depths and without hesitation fired from the corner of the penalty area under the near post. Sarnavsky obviously didn’t have time to get into the game, he lost the goal and disappointed his team. Already in the sixth minute, “Alexandria” almost marks the second. The combination turned out to be similar to the first, only this time Tretyakov made fun of Douglas: he launched the Brazilian and achieved a rally. The Dnipro-1 goalkeeper has already played reliably, but he beat the opponent. The ball hit Sitalo, who easily pushed the defender back and hit the bottom: Sarnavsky again.
After attacking for a few more minutes by inertia, “Alejandría” gradually retreated with all its composition behind the center line, counting on counterattacks. One of them in the 18th minute ended with a dangerous, but slightly inaccurate diagonal strike from Ustimenko. A few minutes earlier, the young forward replaced Bezborodko, who was unexpectedly injured. After another 20 minutes, Vladimir Sharan had to make a second forced change: Gordienko was injured, who read the game perfectly and closed the central bridgehead. Artyom was replaced by Banada.
At that time, the pace of the game was reduced to a minimum. However, in such a situation, “Alexandria” has found a way to consolidate the advantage, however, not without the help of the referee. Igor Paskhal saw Batagov’s foul on Sitalo in front of the penalty area, although the replay showed that the Dnipro-1 midfielder did not touch the forward. However, Tretyakov launched the fresh wall from 20 meters and put the ball in the upper corner.
Dnipro-1 started the second half with Buletsa in the lineup, who replaced Batagov. Jovicevic’s charges ran a little faster, but dangerous moments, and subsequently the goals continued to create “Alexandria”. At first, Ustimenko easily won the position against Svatok and a turning test from eight meters, next to the post. And then the defender scored his own goal. After submitting the banner, one of the Alexandrians hit the rack with his head, Luchkevich finished off, the blow didn’t work, but the ball flew into the defender’s net.
However, in the 68th minute, Valery scored. And how! Pashaev randomly hit the ball in the direction of the opponent’s penalty area. Sitalo won the fight and kicked Luchkevich, who drove from 15 meters diagonally to the top corner!
Only in the last 15 minutes did “Alexandria” openly stop and allow “Dnipro-1” to even get ahead in terms of ball possession. Furthermore, Jovicevic’s teams scored a prestigious goal, but this was not the result of thoughtful teamwork. Adamyuk, seeing no option to continue the attack, moved to the center and fired from outside the area to the lower corner.
Thus, Vladimir repeated the score with which ended the only meeting between Sharan and Jovichevich when he was training Karpaty. The Croatian’s return to Ukrainian football was not triumphant, he has a lot of work to do.
