Less than 20% of Ukrainians support the decision to expand the districts

An important part of the citizenship has not yet been decided, but the support is very low

The decision of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada to reduce the number of districts from 490 to 129 has the support of 16.5% of Ukrainians. Oppose 30% of the citizens.

This is evidenced by data from a survey by the Foundation for Democratic Initiatives and the Razumkov Center.

At the same time, 36% of citizens have not yet decided to support the initiative to expand districts and will see how this decision will be implemented in practice.

According to the survey, 76.5% of the respondents are aware of the decision to expand the districts, of which 29% know of new districts in the regions where the respondents live and 47.5% only know general information. One in five respondents (21%) is unaware of such a decision by parliament.

The survey was conducted by the Foundation for Democratic Initiatives in cooperation with the Razumkov Center from August 14 to 19, 2020 among 2022 respondents in all regions of Ukraine, with the exception of Russian-occupied territories. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%.

We will recall, on July 17, that the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution on the consolidation of the regions. In particular, it is planned to form 129 districts in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and regions, of which 17 – in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. At the same time, the existing 490 districts are being liquidated.

Recall, according to a survey conducted by the Sociological Group “Rating”, in early September 2020, Ukrainians are most dissatisfied with the work of the Cabinet of Ministers (73%) and the Verkhovna Rada (76%) among the central authorities. At the same time, 11% of the respondents are satisfied with the activities of the government and parliament.
