The current president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, invited the Action and Solidarity Party, led by the president-elect Maia Sandu, to discuss the early elections in the country. At the same time, he rejected the opposition’s demand to remove the Moldovan government.
Dodon said this in an interview with the Moldovan television channel N4.
According to the incumbent president, the decision to hold early parliamentary elections should be made during negotiations between the largest parties that have the opportunity to enter the new parliament.
“It is necessary to agree on the date of early elections and joint actions in this regard,” he added.
Dodon pointed out that the Socialist Party, which he formally heads, together with Accion y Solidaridad, can block the work of parliament, after which Sandu can sign a decree on its dissolution. He also assured that he will do everything possible to have an early parliamentary election in the fall of 2021.
Recall that on Sunday, Sandu supporters demanded the dissolution of the Moldovan parliament after scandalous decisions on the powers of the president and the state of the Russian language. A protest action took place in Chisinau over the weekend.
After that, Sandu demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister of Moldova and his government, which would allow for early parliamentary elections. Sandu’s party has already started preparing a vote of no confidence in the government.
