Diseases from which Ukrainians die the most

In Ukraine, 426,687 people died between January and September 2020. Most of the deaths were caused by diseases of the circulatory system.

While Ukrainians died less from accidents caused by “the action of smoke, fire and flames.” These data were published on its website by the State Statistics Service.

Of note, 4,820 people died of influenza and pneumonia during this period. While COVID-19, according to the State Statistics Service, 4,300 Ukrainians were killed between January and September.

In particular, since the beginning of the year Ukrainians were dying of such diseases:

  • diseases of the circulatory system – 287 501 people;

  • ischemic heart disease: 199,095 people;

  • stroke – 55 876 ​​people;

  • malignant neoplasms – 57 983 people;

  • diseases of the digestive system: 17,269 people;

  • diseases of the nervous system – 3188 people;

  • HIV: 2,268 people;

  • tuberculosis: 2,248 people;

  • diseases of the genitourinary system – 1957 people;

  • diabetes mellitus – 1505 people.

Further, high mortality rate from external causes:

  • by suicide – 4708 people;

  • as a result of an accident: 2,753 people;

  • as a result of accidental drowning: 1,259 people;

  • from accidental poisoning with toxic substances – 1136 people;

  • as a result of an attack with the aim of killing or causing injury: 993 people;

  • accidents caused by smoke, fire and flame – 757 people.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, 4,200 people committed suicide in Ukraine in eight months of 2020, 80% of them are men. Psychologist Lyudmila Nikonenko said that the coronavirus crisis also becomes the cause of suicide.
