On the eve of the Champions League match between Dynamo and Ferencváros, unpleasant news appeared on the official website of Dynamo Kiev: Vitaliy Mykolenko and Georgy Buschan were infected with the coronavirus and will definitely miss the match against the Hungarian champion.

Georgy Buschan’s absence is an opportunity for Denis Boyko’s debut this season. An experienced Lucescu goalkeeper has never entered the football field and surely this situation does not suit Denis himself.

In the winter of 2017, Dynamo Kiev legend Alexander Shovkovsky completed his professional football career and, for the first time in a long time, the goalkeeper position at the capital club became vacant. At that time, the club had three goalkeepers: Maxim Koval, Artur Rudko and Georgy Buschan. Buschan was the youngest and had third goalkeeper status, and until the end of the 2016/17 season he never entered the field. Rudko played more often than others, but made several serious mistakes in the season, which largely predetermined the results of the season.

In the summer of 2017, Sergei Rebrov stepped down as the Dynamo’s head coach. With the arrival of Alexander Khatskevich, Buschan and Koval began to compete for a place at the start. Georgy played less often, but still played 12 games per season. In the winter of 2018, Denis Boyko signed on loan from the Dynamo and immediately became the main goalkeeper for the “Blue and Whites”. Khatskevich began to trust Boyko, Buschan appeared on the field very rarely, Rudko became the third, and Koval did not enter the first team application at all. As a result, Dynamo got rid of Koval and Rudko. Boyko became the main goalkeeper, substitute for Buschan, and the role of the third goalkeeper was played by the goalkeepers of the youth teams.

In the 2018/19 season, Boyko played 41 games and Buschan only 9. But we noticed that during that period, George often suffered injuries. But already with Mikhailichenko in the 2019/20 season, the Dynamo did not have the main goalkeeper. Both received game practice. Buschan played 28 games, Boyko – 17.

With the arrival of Mircea Lucescu, Giorgi Buschan landed a solid first number and seated Denis Boyko hard on the bench. Georgy has already played 12 games for the Dynamo this season. Besides him, no one has yet entered the Dynamo goal in the new season. The debut will take place today.

Let’s compare the statistical indicators of Buschan for this season and Boyko for the last one and understand if Georgiy naturally became the main goalkeeper of the Dynamo.

Georgy shows a much higher percentage of blows rejected. This season, the Dynamo goal is accelerated more often. On average, per game, they shoot on Buschan’s shots 5.3 blows of which he 4.3 hit. Boyko was shot on goal 3.7 times, and beat 2.7… The percentage of hits rejected by Buschan – 80%, in Boyko – 69%… Boyko’s hit game of departure – 95%, and in Bushchan – 87%.

It should be noted that Buschan plays with his feet much more frequently. Georgy’s kicking assists average 18, Denis is twice less – 9… Boyko has a slightly higher accuracy percentage for long passes: 75%, Buschan has the precision of long passes – 70%… What trend is worth noting? Buschan handles punches better from close and medium distances, while Boyko is better at hitting from long distances.

Hits rejected with close distances: Buschan – 72%, Boyko – 45%.
Blows repelled from average distances: Buschan – 95%, Boyko – 61%.
Hits rejected with distant distances: Buschan – 80%, Boyko – 91%.

Looking at these figures, it becomes clear why Bushchan so drastically expelled Denis Boyko from the base.

Boyko – 32 years old, his contract with the Dynamo is valid until the summer of 2023. Denis’s current age is the best moment of the goalkeeper’s life. Sitting behind a younger goalie is clearly not what Boyko himself wants. The next games may answer the question of whether Denis Boyko has a future at the Dynamo.

If the goalkeeper plays at a good level and is able to help his team, it is very likely that after Buschan returns, Lucescu will not change goalkeepers. Just remember how Oleksandr Rybka rescued Shakhtar when Andriy Pyatov was injured. After Andrey returned to duty, the Romanian specialist dropped Rybka at the door. He continued to enchant until his story with disqualification.

If Boyko shows an unreliable game, and even more so he makes serious mistakes that will cost the Dynamo the result, then it will be possible to put an end to Boyko’s career in the capital club. And the footballer himself will have to think about what to do next.

And if in the game against Ferencvaros Ruslan Neshcheret appears in goal, then it can be said that Boyko’s story at the Dynamo is over.
