Cyberpunk 2077 tested with GeForce RTX 30 and Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, neither of which delivered 60fps at 4K resolution and Ultra settings

Resource Tom’s Hardware verified the performance level of the latest models of video cards from the GeForce RTX 30 and Radeon RX 6000 series in the latest Cyberpunk 2077 game. And although the game will be released only on December 10, the embargo Information has already been collected and reviewers can post their reviews.

The game supports ray tracing and super resolution technologies. So far, the latter is only available in the form of NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), and AMD has yet to introduce its FidelityFX Super-Resolution solution for games. Ray tracing is also currently only supported on NVIDIA RTX graphics cards, and support for Radeon RX 6000 will appear in the future. The game offers several options for using DLSS, but the default settings are High Image Quality at 1080p, Balanced Mode at 1440p, and Performance Mode at 4K.

The test platform includes an Intel Core i9-9900K processor, but an older 4-core Core i7-7700K processor was used for some tests. However, the tested version of the game used Denuvo protection, which could affect performance. The GOG Galaxy version will be released without DRM protection. The tests were performed with various graphics quality settings and image resolution options. The results are presented in the form of comparative graphs. However, some special cases need to be covered in more detail.

Cyberpunk 2077 appears to have a CPU limited to 1080p and 1440p. There seems to be a 104-108 fps limit that none of the graphics cards in this overview can break. At 1080p, the Radeon RX 6800XT offers the best performance, but once the resolution increases to 4K, NVIDIA GPUs show a clear advantage.

In Ultra charts, different colors represent different test parameters.

At 4K resolution, none of the graphics cards are capable of 60fps at Ultra graphics quality settings. In this non-ray traced or DLSS raster test, the GeForce RTX 3090 is 36% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. At the same time, the GeForce RTX 3090 with ray tracing set to Medium (no DLSS) simply cannot provide a reproducible result and the image refresh rate is 26.7 frames per second.

Tom’s Hardware reviewers have tested various DLSS configurations in detail. It turned out that with the Ultra ray tracking setting, only the flagship GeForce RTX 3090 can break the 60fps barrier on the DLSS Ultra Performance setting.

Other graphics are available in the Tom’s Hardware source material. The review authors also intend to repeat it after the release of the official game and updated versions of the drivers with their support, as well as after the appearance of the DRM-free version of Cyberpunk 2077.
