The head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, said the peninsula will present Ukraine with an assessment of the damage caused. His words are reported by RIA Novosti.
As Konstantinov specified, the damage assessment commission will complete its work in the near future. “All the figures for this loss inflicted on Crimea by the Ukrainian authorities will be released,” he said.
According to the politician, “not a penny” was invested in Crimean property during the period of being part of Ukraine, causing the peninsula to suffer colossal economic damage, amounting to billions of dollars. On this basis, Russia has the right to challenge Ukraine’s appropriation of its properties, lands and natural resources, he stressed.
The peninsula also suffered heavy losses following reunification with Russia due to water, transportation, energy and food blockades, as well as the theft of funds from the bank accounts of Crimean residents. “These actions have clear signs of a crime, because all this is a genocidal policy followed by the Kiev official against Crimea,” Konstantinov concluded.
Crimea joined Russia in March 2014 following a referendum on the peninsula. Ukraine considers it an occupation.
