Money for the COVID vaccine produced by the pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech will be reimbursed if the final stage of clinical trials fails. The first contract cost Ukraine almost a billion hryvnia.

The chief medical officer, Viktor Lyashko, said this on the air of “Hromadske radio”.

According to him, Ukraine has contracted the vaccine in the third stage of the trials, just as other countries signed contracts with Pfizer i Moderna.

“Ukraine has transferred money, but this does not mean that we will receive this vaccine now … If it is not completed in the time specified in the terms of the contract, the money will go back to Ukraine to the accounts of the State Medical Procurement company of Ukraine “he added. Lyashko added.

He clarified that the first batch of 1.9 million doses was paid for from the 2020 budget. In addition, he noted that negotiations with other manufacturers, including AstraZeneca, are ongoing.
