Ukraine has signed the first contract for the supply of COVID vaccine with the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech. Today the possible delivery times, purchase price and storage conditions are known.
This is stated in the message on the website of the President of Ukraine.
How much vaccine will be purchased
Under a contract with the manufacturer, Ukraine will purchase 1,913,316 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Consequently, this amount should be enough for a vaccination course for more than 950 thousand Ukrainians.
Deliveries will be carried out separately from the COVAX mechanism, according to which 8 million doses of vaccine are guaranteed to Ukraine free of charge for the vaccination of 4 million people.
Price
The agreement was signed with the Ukrainian pharmaceutical company Lekhim JSC, which is an authorized representative of Sinovac Biotech. The purchase price will be 504 hryvnia for one dose.
In this case, the vaccination will be absolutely free… The Chinese vaccine will be used to vaccinate Ukrainians in risk groups and those who play critical roles in the fight against the pandemic.
When will the vaccine be in Ukraine?
The first batch of 700,000 doses will arrive within 30 days of official registration in China, the US, Great Britain, the EU or other competent authorities. In other words, the Sinovac Biotech vaccine remains a candidate and is completing clinical trials.
However, already in January 2021, the vaccine can receive the necessary permission. In February, he will run for reconversion at the World Health Organization (WHO).
Test results
Clinical trials in different countries, based on the results of intermediate data, showed pharmacological efficacy up to 97%.
In particular, phase III clinical trials were conducted in Indonesia (1,600 patients, 97% efficacy) and Turkey (1,325 patients, 91% efficacy). Phase III clinical trials in Brazil are finalizing and interim results are expected on January 7, 2021.
Storage conditions
The Sinovac Biotech vaccine (CoronaVac) is an inactivated vaccine that comes in a syringe and is stored at temperatures between +2 and +8 degrees Celsius.
When will vaccination start in Ukraine?
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already announced that large-scale vaccination against COVID will begin shortly.
“The main thing is that we have carried out very active months of negotiation work and we have obtained concrete results. We will initiate a large-scale state vaccination program in a short time,” Zelensky said.
