The whole world is waiting for the vaccine
The priority in vaccination with the future coronavirus vaccine in Ukraine will mainly affect medical workers, military personnel, teachers and people at risk.
The race for the coronavirus vaccine continues in the world. At least three drugs have already proven their effectiveness and are being prepared for mass production.
Who will get the vaccine first and how will it get to Ukraine?
There are agreements
The government of Ukraine is negotiating with Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech on the supply of vaccines to our country.
The supply of vaccines to Ukraine can be done in three ways. Under the UN special program COVAX, during purchases for state budget funds, commercial supplies can also be made through a distribution network.
Vaccines are most likely available in Ukraine. in May-June 2021… Under the COVAX program, the vaccine will be guaranteed for 20% of the population and the rest of the state will be purchased.
The first tranche for Ukraine will amount to 1.2 million doses. In total, under the COVAX program, the country will receive up to 8 million doses, which will be enough to inoculate 4 million citizens. We’re talking about getting a drug from Moderna.
It was previously reported that hryvnia 19.4 billion are provided for the purchase of vaccines in the 2021 state budget.
In addition, Ukraine will send 50 million euros for the purchase of vaccines, which the European Investment Bank allocated for the development of municipal infrastructure.
In addition, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel about the purchase of the drug, one of whose developers is a German company.

Who will be vaccinated first
The priority in vaccination with the future coronavirus vaccine in Ukraine will mainly affect health workers, military personnel, teachers and people from risk groups, in particular, people over 60 years of age.
The price of a dose of the coronavirus vaccine, which is being developed by the American company Moderna, will be $ 25 to $ 37. The company intends to produce 20 million doses of the vaccine before the end of the year.
How are they going to transport
Airlines have started preparing planes to carry COVID-19 vaccines. They need ultra-low temperatures down to -70 degrees Celsius. At Pfizer, the storage temperature is -70 degrees Celsius, while Moderna claims -20 degrees.
Most shipments are made in dry ice containers, but most do not have the temperature controls required for vaccines. In addition, dry ice has a serious drawback: its vapors displace the air in the cabin and, therefore, the material has clear restrictions on transport volume.
Large planes can carry about 1 ton of dry ice at a time.
The alternatives are electric refrigerators and liquid nitrogen. Using the latter allows you to reach temperatures down to -150 degrees. For its part, Pfizer also began working on the transport format: the company created boxes with temperature control and GPS control. Pfizer has already shipped pilot vaccines to 4 US states.
Demand for reefer containers has already boosted stocks at manufacturers such as Cryoport Inc or va-Q-tec, whose value has more than doubled in recent months.
