A total of 8 thousand people in Brazil participate in drug trials

It is not yet known whether the deceased received a placebo or the drug itself, as the study is being conducted in a double-blind manner.

Oxford University, which is working with British-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to develop a coronavirus vaccine, said trials of the drug would continue despite the death of a volunteer. This is stated in a message distributed on Wednesday, October 21 on the university’s website.

“After a thorough examination of this case in Brazil, there was no concern about clinical trials. After an independent investigation, in addition to the findings of the Brazilian regulator, it was recommended to continue with trials,” the statement read.

According to the D’Or Research Institute, which conducts tests in Rio de Janeiro, a total of 8,000 people in Brazil participate in the international COVID vaccine testing program. At the same time, half of them received a dose of the Oxford vaccine and the rest of the volunteers received a placebo.

Since the study is a double-blind study, it is not yet known whether the deceased received a placebo or a drug.

Recall, previously the media reported on the death in Brazil of a 28-year-old volunteer doctor from the COVID-19 vaccine testing program. The man fell ill with coronavirus in September, and in October it worsened, although he did not have any concomitant illness.
