Experts from the World Health Organization have warned that although the coronavirus pandemic has been very serious, it is not one of the largest. Therefore, the world will have to learn to live with the coronavirus.
This was stated by an expert in infectious diseases at the World Health Organization, David Heyman, reports The Guardian.
The coronavirus will become an endemic infection, he said, even as COVID-19 vaccines are beginning to be introduced in the United States and the United Kingdom.
“The world expected herd immunity, that transmission would decrease somewhat if enough people were immune,” Heyman said.
However, he added that the concept of herd immunity has been misunderstood.
“Apparently, the fate of SARS-CoV-2 is to become endemic, like four other human coronaviruses, and it will continue to mutate as it multiplies in human cells, especially in places with more intense transmission,” said the WHO expert.
At the same time, the Organization believes that even the use of an effective vaccine does not guarantee that the disease will be overcome.
Note that an endemic disease is a disease characteristic of a certain area, which in most cases is associated with an acute deficiency or an excess of the content of any chemical element in the environment. It can develop in plants, animals and humans.
Recall that the WHO predicts that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus will continue to mutate.
