Ukraine is expected to hold local elections in all regions of the country on October 25. The infectious disease doctor has already predicted the possible impact of this event on the spread of the coronavirus in the country. He also commented on the possibility of “self-destruction” of COVID-19 and the timing of the vaccine’s invention. Infectious disease doctor Yuri Zhigarev spoke about this on the air of the television channel Obozrevatel.
The doctor said that the Ministry of Health is doing everything possible in this situation to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus infection during the elections. Despite this, there is still the risk of infection.
“We cannot completely exclude the possibility that someone comes with symptoms of coronavirus infection, someone wears a mask, someone without a mask. All of these situations are quite possible. Therefore, of course, we cannot completely eliminate the danger of infection”. How much will this increase and will we have many more new cases? I think there won’t be many more, but of course it may have some impact on the spread of the infection, ”said the doctor.
Commenting on the “self-destruction” of the coronavirus predecessor, the doctor noted that in the case of SARS-Cov-2, that possibility is excluded.
“The situation here is different, we see that the coronavirus does not destroy itself. But we can see a situation in which the incidence will decrease and most people will already have herd immunity naturally,” said the doctor.
The doctor also said that there is a possibility of a decrease in the incidence of coronavirus and the invention of a vaccine at the same time.
“Of course, neither I nor any other expert can know exactly what it will be like. But I know this has happened. For example, if we take SARS-1, which was in 2003, then we just had a situation like that when the incidence started to decline. before an effective vaccine was developed. If it will be like this now, I don’t know, but it can’t be ruled out either, “said the doctor.
