What is blocking

The lockdown is a system of restrictive measures that are introduced to contain the spread of disease. During the confinement, there is a mode of isolation for the population, that is, limited freedom of movement and action within a certain area.

Only organizations that meet the basic needs of citizens and critical infrastructure can continue to function normally.

A total lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak was in effect in Ukraine from mid-March to May 22. The government introduced a strict quarantine, within the framework of which it was prohibited: the work of educational institutions of all kinds, public events, the work of shopping and entertainment centers, catering establishments. Public transport operated with restrictions. In addition, border checkpoints were closed and international air and rail communications were disrupted. At the end of May, restrictions began to gradually relax and an adaptive quarantine was introduced.

Due to the increase in incidence and daily “anti-registrations” of new COVID-19 cases among Ukrainians, the government increased the quarantine in mid-November. In particular, from 00:00 hours on Saturday to 00:00 hours on Monday, a weekend quarantine was introduced. These measures will last from November 14 to 30.

The weekend quarantine is a partial lockdown. At this time, the work of the stores is prohibited, except for grocery stores. Catering establishments can only operate in take-out mode. On weekends, shopping and entertainment centers, cultural and entertainment institutions, beauty salons and gyms are closed. Holding massive events is prohibited.

Under what conditions can a blockade be introduced in Ukraine?

At a government meeting on November 25, Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said there is currently no talk of increasing quarantine restrictions. At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers is developing a plan in case the situation in the country worsens.

In particular, the government is considering introducing a blockade for the New Years weekend… Shmygal noted that the New Year holidays may drive an increase in incidence. The healthcare system may not be able to handle it.

The head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, called the main condition for entering a total lock is collapse of the medical system… This can happen when the number of hospitalized patients reaches 25-30 thousand, which is a critical workload of the system, about 80%.

The Minister of Health pointed out that to improve the situation with COVID-19, it is necessary to break the chain of transmission of the disease. Stepanov admitted the possibility of tightening the quarantine and, if that decision is made, it will apply to all regions.

The deputy head of the President’s Office, Kirill Tymoshenko, said that the introduction of the weekend quarantine is the only possibility that Ukraine will not impose a total lockdown. According to him, if citizens do not comply with the established restrictions, the country can really return to the blockade, because the morbidity situation is critical.

Culture Minister Alexander Tkachenko proposes the introduction of a total blockade in the country for the New Year holidays. In your opinion, the situation should be predictable. Tkachenko suggests planning lasts two-week quarantine, reject mass events for Christmas and New Years and comply with the holidays online.

Presidential adviser Oleg Ustenko believes that the decision to introduce a lockdown can be made in the event of a sharp increase in the incidence of the coronavirus. It does not exclude the possibility of strengthening quarantine measures, but there is still no clear forecast for its introduction. Ustenko also stated that the blockade will be a severe blow to the country’s economy… However, according to him, when such a decision is analyzed, the economy takes a back seat.

Which countries have already introduced a blockade or have tightened the quarantine a lot?

The incidence of COVID is worsening in many countries and governments are tightening restrictions.

If in Germany the lockdown has been in effect since early November and is scheduled to continue for another month. Restaurants, bars, entertainment venues, gyms, beauty salons are closed. Hotels are prohibited from accepting tourists. At the same time, schools and shops are open.

IN Lithuania it reintroduced a nationwide quarantine in early November. There is a mandatory mask regime, massive events have been canceled, cinemas, theaters and catering establishments are closed.

Lock on Britain it’s been going on for a month. At the moment, citizens are not recommended to leave their homes unnecessarily, the work of catering establishments is limited, and mass events are prohibited.

In France lock mode was introduced as of October 30. As part of the quarantine, catering establishments and some commercial companies are closed. Educational institutions continue to operate, but students from the age of 6 must wear a mask. The easing of the main restrictions is scheduled for after December 15.

Quarantine c Poland significantly tightened since November 7. Educational institutions have been closed, the work of shopping centers is limited, cultural institutions and gyms do not work.

IN Turkey a partial lock was introduced: curfew on weekends from 20:00 to 10:00. Restaurants and cafes during this period work only in the delivery format, gyms, swimming pools and museums are closed. Schools are closed until the end of the semester. Theaters won’t open until the end of the year.

A curfew was also introduced in Montenegro… People are prohibited from leaving their homes from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The entertainment facilities were reduced from 7:00 to 18:00.
