Cigarette prices will skyrocket in Ukraine: how much will they pay for a pack

[ad_1]

In Ukraine, in 2021, the excise tax on cigarettes will increase by 20%. As a result, the price of a pack of cigarettes will increase by 7.9 to 12.1 UAH.

This is stated in the OBOZREVATEL material. This decision was made a few years ago to comply with the EU directive (in short, our excise duties cannot be lower than the European ones). Gradually, the cost of one package will reach 100 UAH.

Next year the average price will be:

a pack of Ukrainian cigarettes – a price increase from 7.9 UAH to 49.4 UAH;

middle-class cigarettes – from 8.9 UAH to 57.8 UAH;

premium cigarettes – from 12.1 UAH to 66.8 UAH

According to OBOZREVATEL estimates, the increase in excise duty will lead to the fact that the average cost of Ukrainian cigarettes will approach the 50 UAH mark. At the same time, the price of an imported premium package will rise to almost 66.8 UAH.

Another important innovation: cigarettes (hits) for IQOS and e-liquids will also go up in price. The expert of the organization “Life”, which fights against the spread of smoking in Ukraine, Dmitry Kupira recalls: this year only 34 kopecks of tax are paid for a cigarette for IQOS. But the Verkhovna Rada decided to compare excise duties on all cigarettes, as a result, the tax burden at one stroke will already amount to 1.45 UAH.

Therefore, if the price components do not change, the price of a hit package can increase by about 22 UAH (up to 77 UAH).

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukraine can ban flavored and different flavored cigarettes, and sell tobacco products only to customers over 21 years of age.

The relevant innovations are provided for by bill No. 2813, which can become law as of 2021, according to OBOZREVATEL. In addition, the appearance of the packs will also be changed: they will contain photographs of inflamed teeth, affected organs, etc.
