Today, February 5, Hollywood actor Christopher Plummer, who starred in the movie “The Sound of Music,” has received Oscars, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Emmy awards. Plummer, 91, has worked for nearly 70 years on stage and screen, appearing in more than 200 movies and television shows.
He is best known for his role as Captain George von Trapp opposite Maria Julie Andrews in the classic 1965 Robert Wise film The Sound of Music. This musical won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Plummer won a 2010 Oscar for Rookies and was recently nominated for an Oscar for Ridley Scott’s All the Money in the World. Plummer most recently starred in Ryan Johnson’s Knives Shaved.
Plummer was born on December 13, 1929 in Toronto and raised in Montreal. He began his professional career on stage and on radio in French and English. Since his New York debut in 1954, the actor has starred in many famous productions on Broadway and London’s West End, earning accolades on both sides of the Atlantic.
On the big screen, Plummer debuted in 1958 on The Victim.
In 1968, with the approval of Elizabeth II, he was declared a Knight of Honor of the Order of Canada.
