The Chinese lunar module Chang’e-5, which landed on December 1, collected soil samples on the satellite for the first time in 44 years.
The Chinese vehicle “Chang’e-5” on the night of December 3 was successfully launched from the lunar surface. This was reported by the China National Space Administration.
Chang’e 5 landed in the Ocean of Storms on December 1. Over two days, the device collected lunar soil samples, after which it lifted off the surface and headed toward Earth.
Before leaving the satellite, the device displayed the Chinese flag on the moon. As the CGTN television channel points out, for the first time in three lunar missions, China has installed a flag made of cloth on a satellite. It was made of a specially developed composite material: ordinary fabric on the moon quickly fades and decomposes due to strong electromagnetic radiation and temperature differences.
If the mission to deliver samples to Earth is successful, China will become the third country after the United States and the Soviet Union to sample lunar soil. Such attempts have not been made since 1976.
