Chinese investigators prohibited from communicating with media representatives
In the People’s Republic of China, a special commission has been created, which decides which data on the origin of COVID-19 should be admitted to publication and which should not, journalists say.
Chinese authorities have thwarted attempts to reveal information or research data on the origin of the new type of coronavirus. This is stated by the Associated Press (AP) materials agency, published on Wednesday, December 30.
It is noted that the agency staff reached such conclusions after speaking with dozens of scientists from China and other countries and becoming familiar with the authorities’ internal data and documents.
“The Chinese government strictly controls all investigations related to the origin of the coronavirus, suppresses some of them, and actively supports alternative theories that its source may be outside of China,” the article said.
As an example, the journalists cite information that Beijing is trying to prevent scientists and media workers from accessing the caves where bats nest, from which the virus could be transmitted to humans.
Likewise, according to AP, the samples obtained were seized from researchers working in the aforementioned caves, and experts were prohibited from communicating with media representatives.
In addition, a special commission has been created in the republic, which decides which data on the origin of COVID-19 should be admitted for publication and which not, says the material.
“The Chinese authorities are afraid to reveal information that may indicate their negligence in preventing the spread of the infection,” the authors of the material said.
Recall that in China, journalist Zhang Zhan was sentenced to four years in prison for covering the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. The girl was broadcasting live from the city for almost a year during the epidemic of the then “unknown viral pneumonia.”
