To avoid punishment, the driver offered the police a thousand euros of undue benefit

In the Zhytomyr region, law enforcement officers reached and forcibly stopped the Nissan minibus, which was carrying 700 kg of amber, as it initially violated traffic regulations, reports the press service of the region’s National Police.

“The patrol cars forcibly stopped the Nissan car. Driving through the territory of the Rivne region, the driver violated several traffic rules and did not stop at the request of the police, so they decided to catch up and check it,” the message says .

As it turned out, the driver avoided communicating with the police due to the load on the minibus. Upon examination, it turned out that he was carrying 27 bags of stones that looked like raw amber. The total weight of the amber was 700 kg.

To avoid punishment, the driver, a 51-year-old resident of the Chernivtsi region, offered the police 1,000 euros of inappropriate benefits, the press service added.

The pre-trial investigation is carried out under art. 240-1 (“Illegal extraction, sale, acquisition, transfer, shipment, transportation, processing of amber”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. At the same time, the police documented the circumstances of the offering of improper benefits to the patrolmen. On this fact, a criminal process has been initiated under art. 369 (“Offer, promise or provision of an illegal benefit to an official”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Now the man faces not only administrative responsibility for violating traffic rules, but also criminal punishment for these acts.

Now the police are investigating the origin and purpose of the shipment. The establishment of all circumstances continues.
