Car Import Corruption Scheme Revealed at Lviv Customs

Officials helped businessmen to significantly underestimate customs duties when importing trucks into Ukraine.

The customs office of the Lviv region revealed a plan for the importation of trucks, in which the budget received less than 17 million UAH. This was announced on Monday, September 28, by the press service of the Attorney General’s Office.

According to the investigation, customs officials, together with businessmen and customs agents, organized an illegal plan to import 37 trucks into the territory of Ukraine for the amount of about 40 million UAH. Separately, various parts of the vehicles were imported: the bodies entered through some customs posts, through others under the guise of passenger cars – trucks. At the same time, inaccurate information about their registration numbers and VIN codes was entered into the internal databases of the State Tax Service of Ukraine.

“This made it possible to illegally import cars into the customs territory of Ukraine and further reduce the payment of mandatory customs payments by more than 10 times. Approximately, therefore, the budget received less than UAH 17 million in taxes and payments. customs, “says the message.

It is noted that on 28 September, during the searches, law enforcement officers identified and seized documents, flash media, preliminary records and funds amounting to more than 1 million UAH.

Now the court has seized 37 trucks and their removal has been prohibited.

Earlier it was reported that the eastern customs received 5 million UAH per year from a single scheme. Customs officials systematically extorted money from merchants for import clearance of goods.
