The cabinet supported changes to the NABU law
The document assumes that the current head of the anti-corruption body will continue to exercise powers until the next head of the department is appointed.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, in an extraordinary meeting on Thursday night, November 26, supported the bill that guarantees the Verkhovna Rada the right to remove the head of the National Anti-Corruption Office of Ukraine. This was announced by Prime Minister Denis Shmygal.
He noted that an important provision of the bill is that the current head of NABU will exercise powers until the next head of the department is appointed.
“Maintaining the independence of NABU is a key position for the government. In addition to adapting all the provisions of the law on its activities to the norms of the Constitution,” emphasized the chief of staff.
In this way, he said, the government strengthens the anti-corruption architecture and remains committed to anti-corruption policies.
The corresponding changes to the NABU law were the fight against k due to the decision of the Constitutional Court, which at the end of August declared unconstitutional the decree of former President Petro Poroshenko on the appointment of Artem Sytnik as director of NABU.
Subsequently, the NABU Law was also declared partially unconstitutional. In particular, the KSU found the provisions on the powers of the president under the NABU to be inconsistent with the basic law.
