The chairman of the state commission for the investigation of the plane crash in the Kharkov region, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategic Industries of Ukraine Oleg Urusky reported the details of the accident.
He described by the minute the main events before the tragedy.
SINCE 16.00 On September 25, on board the AN-26Sh, a training was held for the personnel of the cadets of the Kharkov National Air Force University. Ivan Kozhedub (KhNUPS) to learn how to pilot and control an airplane. The flights were to continue until 11:00 p.m.

At that moment, another aircraft was approaching and the flight director gave permission to land one minute after the request. The aircraft crew maneuvered to a landing course, after which the landing zone chief gave the order to descend, check the landing gear and flaps, which was done. The crew commander reported on the preparation for landing and did not transmit anything else.
20.45. During the landing approach, the aircraft lost altitude and collided with the earth’s surface at a distance of about 1500 m from the runway of the military unit’s airfield near Chuguev. As a result of the fall of the AN-26Sh aircraft, the main part of the fuselage caught fire.
“It has been established that the An-26Sh aircraft, w / n 76, was manufactured in 1977. Repairs were carried out in July 1996. The total flight time of the aircraft since the start of operation was 5,985 hours. – 20,000 flight hours. Lifetime – until June 21, 2022. Two AI-24VT engines are installed on board the aircraft. Left – manufactured in December 1977, and the right –in the 4th quarter of 1974. Both were repaired and the useful life was extended. The next repair on the left was supposed to take place in June 2021, and on the right – in October 2020 “, – Oleg Urusky said.
