According to “Censor.NET” editor-in-chief Yuri Butusov, Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky will appoint former Georgia President Mikheil Saakashvili as secretary of the National Reform Council on May 6.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky can sign a decree appointing former President of Georgia, former President of the Odessa Regional State Administration Mikhail Saakashvili, for a new post.

This was announced on Facebook on May 6 by the editor in chief of the publication “Censor.NET” Yuri Butusov.

“On May 6, the president’s decree is expected to appoint Mikhail Saakashvili secretary of the National Reform Council, chaired by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. At the same time, the president will expand Saakashvili’s powers. He will receive the right to participate at Cabinet meetings. The frequency of National Council meetings will also be specified once a month, “he wrote.

The journalist noted that Zelensky gives Saakashvili “statehood, a platform to express initiatives or criticism that Saakashvili can moderate, and now unlimited opportunities to comment on any state issue on television channels.”

“Yes, the deputy prime minister status, which the deputies refused to give Saakashvili, is more significant, but access to the information space is excellent. Interestingly, Zelensky has made the decision on the appointment, despite the powerful attack of information from the pro-Russian media in Ukraine and the full power of Russian propaganda. This is an important signal: designate a position, albeit symbolic, of a personal enemy [президента РФ Владимира] Putin From the point of view of diplomacy, this is a historic movement. At the same time, Zelensky acknowledged that Ukraine considers the Georgian court verdicts against Saakashvili to be invalid. Zelensky left the Georgian leadership’s efforts unanswered, “Butusov explained.

According to him, Saakashvili does not plan for the first time “any sharp political movement, conflicts”.

“His task is to determine his agenda. Globally, these will be issues related to deregulation. Zelensky has not defined any clear strategy for Saakashvili, so the hands of the former Georgia president are untied,” Butusov wrote.

On April 22, it emerged that Zelensky proposed that Saakashvili take over as deputy prime minister for reform. The president believes that the politician “has the potential to support the Ukrainian government.”

There are not enough votes for Saakashvili’s appointment; it was not presented to the Verkhovna Rada.

People’s Servant deputy Alexander Kachura expressed the opinion that if the president calls on the faction to support this staff decision, there will be votes. “There was no official statement from Zelensky. If the president expresses at a faction meeting that we need to support Saakashvili, we will definitely support this decision. We will have 226 votes in the faction,” he said.

According to “The Ukrainian Truth” and “RBC-Ukraine,” the former President of Georgia may take the position of adviser to the President or a seat on the National Reform Council.

On April 30, the head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arahamia, announced that a new position had been found for Saakashvili. Which, the town deputy did not say.

In 2004-2013, Saakashvili was the President of Georgia. After the end of the second cadence in 2013, he left the country, now lives in Ukraine, has Ukrainian citizenship. In Georgia, criminal cases were opened against him.

In 2015–2016, Saakashvili headed the Odessa Regional State Administration. He resigned because the Ukrainian authorities, he said, supported the corruption clans.
