The Bundestag rejected a proposal to support the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The proposal “Ensuring energy security: support for Nord Stream” was presented by the Alternative for Germany (ADG) party.

The relevant documents are published on the website of the German parliament.

The ADG proposal stated that the gas pipeline project meets the interests of Germany and Europe. And there was also a call to ensure early completion of the Nord Stream-2 construction.

The initiative was rejected by 556 votes. Only 83 representatives of the ADG expressed their support for it. A member of parliament abstained.

Earlier it was learned that the United States intends to impose sanctions against the insurance and certification companies that guarantee the operation of Russian vessels in the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. This could stop the construction of the gas pipeline.

On the eve of the representatives of the House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States reached an agreement on the inclusion of additional sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline “Nord Stream-2”. The sanctions will be included in the US National Defense Act 2021.
